The deputy, who asked to remain anonymous, had contacted the man before, according to department spokesman Detective Ed Troyer. When the deputy saw the man panhandling at 512 and Steele Street, he struck up a conversation.

After discussing services available to the homeless man, the deputy offered to share his lunch. The two sat down and ate together.

The man told the deputy he will have housing next month.

The photo of the deputy eating lunch has gone viral. The original post was shared 14,616 by 3:28 p.m. on Thursday.
