Back to real life in a moment, but just some observations on the Super Bowl.
It was a great game, and seeing the discipline of those twenty-somethings under all that pressure gives me hope for the future.
Patrick Mahomes wins a ring at age 24; what was in my trophy case at age 24? Ha! When I was 16 I won the principal’s award for never getting detention. And not a single endorsement deal!
The halftime show: I think of how long it takes for the typical public works project. These people set up a working pyrotechnic video display stage in the middle of a football field in about five minutes and it all worked the first time.
By the way, Shakira absolutely convinced me that “Hips Don’t Lie.” In fact, several other body parts also appeared to be telling the truth.
Finally, with most football games, the analysis goes right over my head. This time, though, I understood the analysis just fine, it was the commercials that went over my head.
The Google commercial about saving your memories – great; made me cry. Mr. Peanut dying and being resurrected – great; made me cry. Medieval England being totally dependent on American-made diet beer – I got that one too; it made me cry.
But the ones with all the Marvel characters lost me. By the time the kids in the room finished explaining who they were I missed what they wanted me to buy. I think they should have their own channel.
