Last night’s debate was about Mike Bloomberg the capitalist versus Bernie Sanders the socialist, versus everybody else.

I thought this campaign was about choosing a President, but apparently we also have the option of choosing a whole new economic system!

But as different as these two men are, it turns out there’s one thing they have in common.

“I think the one area Bloomberg and I share — you have two stents as well,” Sanders pointed out during Wednesday night’s debate in Las Vegas.

“Thirty-five years ago,” Bloomberg clarified.

I myself am at the age now where the lunchtime conversation tends to start with a reference to a troublesome body part. But this is the first time I can remember having two presidential candidates comparing heart procedures.

I realize millions of people have stents, and Sanders and Bloomberg seem to have to plenty of stamina at the age of 78.

But now suddenly, Sanders has decided he will not release his full medical records, after saying earlier that he would.

That of course invites people to imagine the worst, and I’m sure he knows that. But he’s apparently concluded that whatever people might imagine is better than what’s actually in those documents.

What I see developing here is something that America hasn’t seen since FDR ran for his fourth term: The most important choice at the convention might not be the candidate for president.
