Maple Valley police precinct once closed to save money, reopens

Mar 19, 2014, 11:04 AM | Updated: 11:21 am

Once again, residents of southeast King County have a police station in Maple Valley.

The 30-year-old King County Sheriff Hicks-Raburn Precinct re-opened Tuesday, after being closed for three years to save money.

“This is a great day for my department for the officers that work in southeast King County, but more importantly it is a great day for the community, for the people that live in unincorporated King County,” said King County Sheriff John Urquhart. “You have a police station to go to once again.”

Congressman Dave Reichert was at the ribbon-cutting. He remembered the two officers – Sergeant Sam Hicks and Detective Michael Raburn – for whom the building is named.

“This building is more than a building, it’s a memorial in honor of two men and their families,” Reichert said. “So when you come to Precinct 3, when you come to the Hicks-Raburn precinct remember that this is a place where men and women come to serve.”

Nearly 80 deputies and detectives will work out of the remodeled precinct.
