Small earthquake shakes west of Monroe early Thursday

A small earthquake hit in Snohomish County just after 4:20 a.m. Thursday morning, roughly two-and-a-half miles west of Monroe.

The quake was initially measured at a 3.1 magnitude, before being downgraded to a 2.6. It was relatively shallow at just 18 miles deep; for reference, larger earthquakes can occur as deep as over 400 miles.
No major damage or injuries have been reported as a result of the earthquake.
