Ross: What will it take for virus, election results to be real for us?

Do any of us trust anything? Maybe I spend too much time on Twitter, but I sense a lack of trust even in the real people I talk to.
We long ago stopped trusting election polling, right? Now millions of us don’t even trust the actual election results.
The vote counters in Georgia haven’t given up – they are so determined to get us to trust their recount they’re doing it by hand, and they’re going to stream it live!
But will we trust even that? Or will we tell our friends on Facebook that it’s recount theater, and merely actors on a sound stage?
The federal government’s cybersecurity agency Thursday declared the last election to be the most secure in American history. But do you trust that?
And then there’s the virus. Those projections turned out to be right! Again, we’re seeing crowded hospitals and improvised morgues and yet, the gatherings continue and the mask numbers don’t budge. Governor J.B. Pritzker of Illinois couldn’t help himself – he just had to blurt it out:
“What will it take to make this real for you?” he asked, amid warnings of a new stay-at-home order for the state.
What will it take? And I haven’t even mentioned the whole climate change thing. How many hurricanes have we had? Do we need a hand recount of the hurricanes?
Anyway, that’s why I’m proposing a new national motto, and here it is:
“What will it take?”
Yes! The perfect motto for a nation that trusts nothing!
