A suspect who escaped Puyallup police custody by fleeing from the back of an ambulance on the way to Good Samaritan hospital has been caught after a day long search.

Kamp Dugger, 27, was in custody on several warrants for domestic violence and escape when he suffered an apparent seizure early Monday morning, said Puyallup police Capt. Scott Engle.

“As the ambulance was pulling into the hospital he jumped out the back and bolted out the back of the ambulance,” Engle said.

Dugger avoided detection for most of the day before someone spotted him running in an area east of the hospital. He had somehow managed to change out of his orange, jail-issued jumpsuit into civilian clothes.

Police set up containment and a K-9 unit was brought in.

“As the officers were getting into the area he was a couple of houses over and K-9 was able to take him down.”

An investigation into the escape, whether anyone helped Dugger and how he got the change of clothes is underway.

“We obviously want to determine where and when that happened,” Engle said.
