Apple announces Apple Watch and Apple Pay – and just like that, in 24 hours, we find ourselves in the future.

The audience at the unveiling in Cupertino gave the watch a standing ovation. Even as they scrambled for clever ways to mock the event on Twitter.

But it’s not just about telling the time. It links with Apple Pay so you can charge stuff – just by swiping the watch. And, I heard from CBS Tech Consultant Larry Magid that it has Siri.

“You can ask questions with your voice instead of having to tap it into the watch. So, when you’re asking the mapping application which way to turn, it will vibrate to tell you weather to turn left or right. You won’t have to even look at your watch to know which way to turn,” said Magid.

Sort of a friendly shock collar!

And there are features for frequent travelers.

“One will let you check into your American Airlines flight and another will unlock your door at Starwood Hotels. BMW has an app that will tell you where you parked your car.”

You see what this means? You don’t need cash. You don’t need credit cards. You don’t need key cards. You don’t need a wallet! Or pockets! Our pants can be smooth again! Future generations won’t have butt dents.

Actually you do need at least one pocket, because the watch needs the iPhone 6 to work.

And you’ll need a charger. Actually, two chargers because the watch and the phone need to be charged every day.

Otherwise, you won’t know the time, can’t pay your bills, will be locked out of your hotel room, and you won’t be able to find your car.
