Train hits man on tracks in Edmonds, suspends ferry service

Nov 15, 2013, 8:50 AM | Updated: 2:45 pm

Commuter train and ferry service has resumed in Edmonds after a freight train struck and killed a man standing on the tracks Friday morning.

Crew on the northbound train spotted the man, who appeared to ignore warnings.

“As soon as they saw the man on the tracks, they started blowing their horns repeatedly as they do every day when they come through the town anyway, but the man did not move at all,” says Edmonds Police Sergeant Mark Marsh.

The train was blocking roadways in downtown Edmonds, preventing ferry passengers from getting on or off boats. A spokeswoman for the State Ferry System said that passengers on the ‘Spokane’ would be diverted to Colman Dock in Seattle.

Sounder commuter train service was also affected.

According to Melonas, this is the 17th fatal train/pedestrian incident in the state so far this year.
