West Seattle residents are hoping investigators can figure out why some airplane parts fell out of the sky and smashed into their homes Tuesday.

Andy Scearce was home with his 5 month-old son, Noah, when he heard a small, low-flying plane pass over his house on Holden Street. Moments later, he heard a loud thump on his roof.

“We have a tall tree in the yard and occasionally branches fall off and I think nothing of it, but this was much louder,” he says.

Andy went outside to find his neighbor in the street, saying he heard the plane and saw debris falling out of the sky.

Luckily, no one was hurt and there was no damage to either home. Andy found some of the framing and insulation in garden, as well as a hump-shaped piece of plastic. He later found what appears to be a plastic window with a handle in the middle of the street. His neighbor found a long, black piece with two pointed glass pieces on his roof.

“The glass is tinted blue and looks like it may be from some kind of light sport aircraft or kit plane, but that is all speculation at this point.”

Andy thinks the plane likely came from Boeing Field, but says no one has claimed responsibility.

Andy says the FAA is coming out to take a look. An official says any findings would be turned over to the NTSB.
