Woman rescued from burning home in Seattle

An 82-year-old woman is clinging to life at Harborview Medical Center after a raging fire trapped her in her north Seattle home.

The fire broke out just after noon at the home on the 11700 block of 22nd Ave. NE.

The woman’s 88-year-old husband met firefighters in front of the burning home, his face blackened by soot. Rescuers found the woman unconscious and not breathing in a bathtub.

Medics brought her back to life with CPR in the ambulance, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore.

The woman remains in critical condition at Harborview with second-degree burns to her face and legs.

During the rescue, the husband went back into the house and suffered burns and smoke inhalation. He was also take to Harborview for treatment.

The fire is being blamed on improperly discarded smoking materials. Damage is estimated at $150k.
