What’s the big deal about March Madness?

At workplaces, schools and homes around the country people are turning in their brackets for the start of the March Madness tournament. But not everyone understands what the big deal is.

KIRO Radio Morning News host Dave Ross thought reports he’d heard about 60 million brackets being filled out in the U.S. sounded a little crazy.

But 710 ESPN’s Brock Huard explained the reason there’s such a mass appeal is because it’s a sporting event everyone can get it in on.

“Do you want to know why there are 60 million brackets? Because my little 4-year-old Titus has as good a shot as winning, at picking the right teams, as I do,” says Brock. “Anybody has got a shot to win. This thing is called ‘madness’ for a reason.”

There are, of course, some limitations on who you can pick to win. When Brock asked Dave who he’d be rooting for, Dave said his alma mater Cornell.

“Cornell did not make it this year,” said Brock to a disappointed Dave Ross, who was dealt another blow when he heard Harvard was still in it.

Titus picked Duke to win the whole thing.
