Child, person in wheelchair, escape Seattle house fire

Sep 9, 2013, 9:34 AM | Updated: 11:55 am

A child and a person in a wheelchair were among five people who escaped a house fire in Seattle early Monday morning.

Three people sought safety on a second story deck, away from the flames. Two climbed down a fire department ladder.

“One person was in a wheelchair and that person stayed with our firefighters until we were actually able to get the fire out and then we just brought him out the normal way,” said fire Lt. Sue Stengl.

Investigators blame the fire on an overheated extension cord. Most of the fire was contained in a garage and damage is estimated at $100,000.
