Women military...

This clip I’m going to play has a million views and you may have seen it already, but it’s the only thing that’s been on my mind since I ran across it on Twitter.

The backstory is that on Monday, President Biden gave a speech for International Woman’s Day about how the U.S. Army has to change the culture and habits that cause women to leave the military. Biden went on to say that women should not be there as tokens and should not be penalized for having children, mentioning changes like re-designing body armor to fit women properly; re-tailoring combat uniforms; creating maternity flight suits; even updating hairstyles.

And of course, that caught the attention of some Fox News host who saw this as sacrificing readiness to gender politics.

That prompted Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant Scott H. Stalker – and by the way, military names don’t get better than that – to post this response:

He was clearly ticked off, but what I noticed was that there was no name-calling. He didn’t sugarcoat anything, he simply said something to the effect of, “you should know what you’re talking about before you pop off about my co-workers.”

What impressed me most about that statement was not just what he was saying about women – but what it said about him. This is the kind of person who goes to work knowing what makes a country worth defending. And to me, that is the strongest weapon this country has.
