Suspicious envelope prompts Seattle hazmat response in downtown building

Twenty-five people in a downtown Seattle high-rise were quarantined for a brief time late Monday morning after an envelope filled with white powder prompted a response by a Seattle Fire Department hazardous materials crew.

The 25 people were inside a conference room on the 21st floor of the Financial Center building at 1215 Fourth Avenue near Spring Street.

No one reported any illness, but investigators quarantined the 25 people as a precaution, said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. The envelope was ultimately determined to be not to be hazardous.
