Detectives believe White Center break-in linked to attempted child abduction

Jun 18, 2013, 6:09 PM | Updated: 6:15 pm

King County detectives say there could be a connection between an attempted break-in in White Center and a recent attempted kidnapping where a mother fought off an attacker trying to take her child.

King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West says the latest incident happened Sunday night, when the suspect tried to break in through a bedroom window where a one-year-old child was sleeping.

The mother had just stepped out of the bedroom and returned to see the man climbing through the window at the home in the 10400 block of 3rd Ave. SW.

A relative heard her scream, jumped out the window and chased the suspect.

Deputies arriving on the scene spotted a red Mazda pickup speeding from the area and tried to stop it. A woman got out of the truck, but the driver sped off and crashed a short distance away. He fled on foot and escaped deputies.

The suspect was wearing clothes matching those of the burglary suspect, who was described as “tall and skinny.”

The truck was stolen from Seattle on May 31, according to West.
Sunday’s incident follows an attempted kidnapping June 2nd when a man tried to kidnap a 3-year-old child from his yard. The child’s mother fought him off and prevented the abduction.

The suspect in the attempted kidnapping was described as a male, approximately 6’0 tall, and skinny. He wore a full mask, dark gloves, and all black clothing including a tight dark shirt, dark pants, and dark shoes.
