Rescue crews spent Tuesday morning trying to free a pony from a 70 foot ravine in Redmond.

Dennis Brislawn, with the Washington State Animal Response Team, said the fjord pony named Gemma is doing well after they pulled her out around 1:30 Tuesday.

“She had water, some hay and she’s with her owners, who were giving her big hugs. They took her to calm her down and have the veterinarian look at her,” said Brislawn.

Brislawn said Gemma disappeared Sunday from Saddle Rock Stables and was later discovered down the ravine. Rescue crews believe Gemma slid down into the ravine after escaping from her stall.

According to Brislawn, Gemma’s rescue was one of the most complex his team has ever been involved in. They ended up using a fire hose to pull the 800 pound horse up to the ledge.

“It required the most technical expertise and about 40 responders. That’s a huge number of people,” he said.

Gemma is healthy and had plenty of hay and water while stuck in the ravine. She was given a painkiller for some bruising.
