He keeps trying to give all his money away solving many of the world’s problems, but all his Microsoft has again made Bill Gates the world’s richest man.

Bloomberg reports Gates’ net worth soared to a whopping $72.7 billion Thursday, thanks in large part to Microsoft stock closing at a five-year high.

Gates has had to suffer the indignity of the number two spot on the list since 2007, when Mexican telecom titan Carol Slim took the title.

Slim is probably not too worried. His net worth is still a tremendous $72.1 billion.

Microsoft shares soared to $34.14 Thursday, the highest since January 2008. The stock is up 27% this year.
