Bomb squads respond to Forest Service office, Bremerton naval base

Apr 17, 2013, 10:37 AM | Updated: 1:03 pm

The military equivalent of a bomb squad has been called to Naval Station Bremerton to investigate a suspicious object that showed up at the Wyckoff Gate Wednesday morning.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists have closed off the area. No further details were provided.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service Office in Sedro-Woolley was evacuated Wednesday morning when workers discovered what was described as a suspicious package at the door. The box had no visible markings, according to spokesperson James Chu.

Personnel were directed to a parking lot across the street while a bomb squad from the Sedro-Woolley Police Department investigated the item.

“We didn’t want to take any chances,” Chu said. “We have protocol that have been established for many years and this just fit that scenario.”

It turned out to be a box of brochures.
