Art project sparks bomb scare in Fremont neighborhood

An art project in Fremont is bombing, so to speak, after several people called 911 to report what they thought was a suspicious package in the Seattle neighborhood.

Police blocked off an area near the Adobe campus, just off the Burke-Gilman Trail and beneath the Aurora Bridge Monday morning.

The bomb squad and robotic device with camera were sent to examine the “device.”

But Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson says before it could be neutralized or detonated, a man told police it was actually an art project.

“We’re going to write a report. He then took the piece and was allowed to leave,” Jamieson says.

He says police are glad people called about the suspicious art.

“And that’s exactly what people did this morning and that’s exactly what we want people to do.”
