Prison lifer charged in 1995 child rape in Buckley

A Level 3 sex offender serving life in prison is now charged
with the rape of a little girl in Buckley 17 years ago.
The crime shocked the community in 1995. The 9-year-old girl
was kidnapped, raped and left for dead in the woods. But she
survived. Parents put up fliers asking for clues to find
the girl’s attacker. The case went cold.
Now, the Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says a DNA hit ties Walla
Walla inmate Donald Schneider, 53, to the rape in Buckley.
The inmate was transferred from the state prison to the
county jail Tuesday night. He’ll enter pleas Thursday to
charges of rape and rape of a child.
Lindquist says he decided to prosecute Schneider for two reasons: “Number one, so that we can obtain justice for this victim and number two, so that we have an insurance policy and we can be sure that this defendant stays in prison for the rest of his life, where he belongs.”
Schneider is serving life without parole for a 2007 conviction for rape and unlawful
imprisonment. His first conviction was 30 years ago in
Pierce County for raping a teenage girl.
