Dori preparing himself for a ‘madhouse zoo’ in Cleveland

KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson attended the 2004 and 2008 Republican and Democratic National Conventions and has also been to three Super Bowls. Because of the recent events around the country and world, and Donald Trump’s polarizing nature, covering the Republican National Convention in Cleveland has brought about an entirely different level of anxiety.
“I think they’re going to keep the event safe, the streets around the event – as we saw in Nice (Thursday night), there is nothing you and do about that,” Dori told Jason Rantz on Friday. “I’m more nervous about Cleveland than I’ve been about any other high-profile event that I’ve ever gone to. It’s not through-the-roof nervousness, but I think it’s legit. I hope and pray that our worst fears don’t become realized.”

Dori, who will be broadcasting live with Rantz and Dave Ross in Cleveland throughout the RNC before heading to Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention next week, noted that more than 40 groups have applied for protest permits in Cleveland. He expects the atmosphere to be a “madhouse zoo.”
Dori wants to speak with protesters from all sides of the Trump craze – from the lovers and haters and everything in between.
“Whether people love or hate Trump, you have to recognize he is inspiring more zealotry type passion, pro and con, than any candidate I’ve ever seen,” he said. “I think that’s going to manifest itself on the streets of Cleveland.”
And who is he most hoping to interview? Any of the Trump kids. Just don’t expect Dori to ask any of them about Papa Trump’s political perspective.
“If I had them on, I seriously wouldn’t talk to them about dad’s politics at all,” Dori said. “I want to know how you grow up seemingly, relatively unaffected by the madness that has encircled you your entire life.”
