Spanaway man jailed for killing mother, wounding father

A Pierce County woman is dead and her husband badly beaten.
Their son is accused of killing the woman and injuring the
man and has been arrested.

Sheriff’s deputies dispatched to a home in Spanaway Monday
night found the couple unconscious and bleeding on the floor
of a detached apartment.

Deputies arrested a screaming man who refused to
follow their orders. He was later identified as the 39-year-
old son of the injuried couple. A sheriff’s spokesman says
the suspect has an extensive criminal history.

Investigators say the woman, 56, who died Tuesday
morning at Saint Joseph Hospital, was beaten with a dining
room chair. The man, 64, was attacked with a vacuum cleaner.
He’s expected to survive his head wounds.
