Bats have been found in people’s bedrooms in Thurston County, with one infected with rabies.

The health department says it’s the first rabid bat in Thurston County this year.

Three people have reported waking up to find bats in their rooms recently.

After similar reports in King County last summer, we learned that even if a person is not bitten, that kind of close contact is risky.

Former Seahawk Shaquem Griffin retires

Former Seahawks linebacker Shaquem Griffin — arguably one of the most inspirational players in the NFL — has announced he’s retiring.

Griffin became the first player with only one hand to be drafted in the NFL.

In 2018, he was selected by the Seahawks, reuniting on the field with his twin brother Shaquill.

In a post on The Players Tribune, Shaquem said he’s leaving football to pursue philanthropic work.

Military base open to the public for a day

Joint Base Lewis Mcchord will be open to the public tomorrow

People will be able to see Black Hawk helicopters, armored vehicles, and military dogs being trained.

They will also be able to tour barracks and talk to soldiers about their jobs.

North Thurston High facing teacher strike

North Thurston’s public school teachers said they may take a strike vote next week.

Tomorrow morning, they will march from North Thurston High to the district office for a demonstration.

The educators’ union said there is no work agreement for the start of school two weeks from now.

Their current contract expires at the end of the month.

Teachers hope to vote on a new contract by then, but said if not, they will consider striking.
