Just like the ferries, Sound Transit and King County Metro are reducing some of their services this fall due to staffing shortages.

King County Metro changes begin today, Sept. 17, and will roughly affect one-third of its routes.

“Service levels following Sept. 17 will be comparable to where they are now,” King County Metro wrote in a prepared statement. “The minor updates in this semi-annual service change are trip-specific adjustments to improve reliability and to better meet rider needs.”

For example, some commuter routes no longer need as many trips while other routes are seeing high ridership.

“We’re especially committed to providing service to customers who count on Metro to get to their jobs every day or for other needs,” King County Metro’s statement continued.

In total, Metro is offering more than 11,000 daily trips to provide frequent, reliable service across King County. This schedule will continue until our next update in March 2023.

“We have more than 2,500 bus operators serving our community and we’re looking to hire 62 full-time equivalents, which includes a variety of part-time and full-time operators,” King County Metro’s statement read.

Please visit Sound Transit’s website for more details on individual route schedules.
