A Seattle lawmaker is trying to slip in an extra $3 million the state budget to help out some of the lowest performing schools in the city.
Despite a $1 billion budget hole that the Legislature is trying to erase, Seattle representative Eric Pettigrew managed to put a one time $3 million appropriation into the House budget proposal.
The Seattle Times reports the money would go to three Seattle schools chosen by the the superintendent of public instruction. They would be among the lowest performers in the state.
Representative Pettigrew was able to add the money in discussions with budget writers over the weekend because it wasn’t in the original proposal last week.
It’s not clear if this late appropriation will be approved by the Senate when the two budget plans are combined.
