A well-known political commentator is questioning Donald Trump’s decision to hold a rally in Washington right after holding one in Mississippi.

James Carville told Seattle’s Morning News that the decision is baffling.

“He was in Mississippi last week — a state he can’t lose. Now he’s in Washington — a state he can’t win,” Carville said. “That guy’s got the weirdest schedule I’ve ever seen.”

The decision is somewhat mystifying. Trump has been polling higher in Mississippi than any other state since mid-July. A poll by Magellan Strategies shows the Republican nominee leading Hillary Clinton by as much as 15 points.

Meanwhile, Trump is behind in the polls in several key states, The New York Times reports.

So for Trump to visit an extremely blue state like Washington, which he has little chance of winning, instead of one of the crucial states in the fight for electoral votes, is difficult to make sense of. Even he didn’t seem too convinced of the decision when he spoke to KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson on Monday.

“Who knows if it’s the right thing or the wrong thing,” Trump added. “But as far as I’m concerned it’s the right thing to do because I have always loved the state.”

Maybe he just wants to stop by to see his “many friends.”
