Ann Romney is taking some cues from Oprah. She made great use of what I call the “It’s obvious” cadence popularized by the famed talk show host. Ann Romney has it down:
>>Listen: Dave Ross Commentary
“Mitt Romney was not handed success–He BUILT IT!”
You get a car, you get a car! I admit, it made me smile.
Ann Romney had the Sunshine and Chris Christie had the Castor Oil.
“We believe in telling our seniors the truth about our overburdened entitlements,” said Christie.
Which, according to the platform, means actually telling some Americans they’ll have to wait longer before getting Medicare and telling well-off seniors they’ll have to pay more for it.
“We all must share in the sacrifice and any leader that tells us differently is simply not telling the truth,” said Christie.
He mentioned sacrifice and not just that, he actually mentioned compromise.
“We believe it’s possible to forge bi-partisan compromise and stand up for our conservative principles.”
No, he didn’t talk about “taxing” but he also didn’t say this:
“Read my lips.”
And I look at all this emphasis on love and shared sacrifice and compromise, and that fact that even in his slam of Obamacare:
“Putting the world’s greatest health care system in the hands of federal bureaucrats and putting those bureaucrats between an American citizen and her doctor.”
He used the feminine pronoun to do it.
I am sensing that Republicans, should they win, are ready to deal. Which is, after all, what successful businessmen do.
