The man suspected of killing an 82-year-old woman in Thurston County has been booked into jail in connection with her death, authorities announced Sunday.
Jeffrey Zizz has been booked into the Thurston County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and unlawful disposal of human remains.
He is scheduled to appear in Thurston County Superior Court Monday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. for his preliminary hearing. Authorities plan to announce more details about the case at a news conference at 5:00 p.m. Monday.
The body of Marcia Norman of Tenino was discovered underneath a shed in Olympia partially encased in concrete, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Her remains were found on April 9, five days after she was first reported missing. The Thurston County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains belonged to Norman the following day.

Zizz, who was announced as a person of interest in the case due to detectives believing he was the last person to see her alive, was extradited from Montana and booked into Thurston County Jail on a no-bail hold for a separate offense. Detectives are currently gathering more evidence for Zizz’s involvement in the death and disappearance of Norman.

The disappearance of 82-year-old Marcia Norman

Norman’s family first reported her missing on April 4, telling authorities Marcia hadn’t been seen since April 1. Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office searched her home, finding incomplete household chores, prompting them to believe she may have left abruptly. Both of her vehicles were in the driveway of her home, located on Military Road near the City of Tenino.

Detectives believed that Marcia Norman was last seen during a dinner with family friend and handyman Jeffrey Zizz on April 1. Zizz had gone through multiple police interviews since Marcia’s disappearance.

“He told us they had dinner together,” Mike Brooks, the Chief Deputy Assessor for Thurston County, told KIRO 7. “He’s not the average handyman to this family…he’s a good family friend, so it doesn’t necessarily seem like having dinner together would necessarily be uncommon.”

Zizz left town on April 6 in a friend’s car, and was later arrested in Montana on an unrelated outstanding warrant. Investigators seized the vehicle.

“While detectives pursued leads, Zizz fled the state, which violated his previous sentence conditions,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office obtained a warrant to arrest Zizz for the sentencing violation on that unrelated sex offense. Zizz was located in Missoula, Montana, and taken into custody at a motel by Missoula Police.”

According to court documents obtained by KIRO 7, Zizz was arrested in Montana for a child molestation probation violation. Zizz previously served 11 months behind bars as part of the child molestation case and was currently serving a 93-month probationary period.

Where 82-year-old Marcia Norman’s body was found

Thurston County detectives discovered that Zizz allegedly built a shed in Olympia on a piece of property he owned on April 2, the day after Norman was reported missing. A week later, using power tools and special equipment, detectives broke open the shed and excavated the ground underneath it.

“Detectives discovered human remains buried under the shed and partially encased in concrete,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office stated. “On April 10, the Thurston County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains were those of Marcia Norman.”

The sheriff’s office said Zizz remains the primary person of interest in the investigation. Additional updates are to come.
