A Seattle man pleaded guilty on Thursday to carjacking a BMW outside Lumen Field last year, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington.

The attorney’s office stated 32-year-old Louis Montel De’Andre Dowers faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison.

Dowers was arrested on June 9, 2024, hours after he carjacked a man waiting for his wife outside the Seattle Team Shop on Occidental Avenue South. Dowers approached the car, pulled out a gun, pointed it at the man, and ordered him to get out of the car, saying, “It’s mine now. Get out.”

The attorney’s office stated the man was able to get his dog out of the car before Dowers drove off. The man’s wife came out of the store and was nearly hit by the car as it sped off.

Police arrest Seattle man for carjacking

Police then tracked the car to Auburn, near a middle school. A King County Sheriff’s deputy saw Dowers walking nearby. Dowers was subsequently searched, leading police to find a fully loaded semi-automatic “ghost gun.” Dowers later admitted he used the gun in the carjacking.

According to the attorney’s office, carjacking is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and using a gun during a violent crime is punishable by a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and up to life in prison.

The case was investigated by several agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
