Two boys were shot Monday night in Snohomish County in what authorities believe was a gang-related incident.

Shots were fired at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the Gateway Apartments in the 13100 block of 21st Drive Southeast. A 17-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An 11-year-old boy was also wounded and may not survive. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

More details in gang-related incident

“During the investigation, detectives learned the victims were in a group spray-painting graffiti on a building,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release. “The suspect, a 20-year-old male, approached the group and shot the victims.”

The man took off but was spotted a short time later riding a motorized scooter near the 11900 block of 37th Drive Southeast. He ran away and tossed a gun onto the ground before being taken into custody, authorities said.

The man was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault.
