The driver of a car that slammed into a fire engine on I-5 Sunday morning says he fell asleep at the wheel.

State patrol investigators say troopers and a crew from South King Fire & Rescue were responding to a DUI rollover crash on southbound I-5 in Federal Way.

That’s when they say another driver entered the crash zone and crashed into the side of the fire truck.

The driver who crashed into the engine told investigators they had fallen asleep as they were driving.

Fortunately, there were only minor injuries.
