The Everett Police Department made an arrest one week after a beloved landlord in Everett was found dead in an alley.

The Everett landlord, Daniel Lytton, 71, was known throughout the community for helping people get back on their feet. Tenants said Lytton often gave people second chances.

“He provided second chances for people that other landlords would not rent to: people with criminal records, people with histories of drug abuse,”  James Burr, one of Lytton’s tenants for more than a decade, told KOMO News. “He was not only a landlord, he was a marine engineer. He spent a lot of time out on ships out at sea, and he brought that engineering mindset with him back home to keep all his apartments in ship shape.”

He was reported missing on Nov. 5. One of Lytton’s tenants told KOMO that his wife hired a private investigator shortly after he went missing. A day later, his body was found wrapped in a tarp and cloth in an alley on the 2700 block of Rucker Avenue.

Police arrested a suspect on Tuesday for second-degree murder. It’s still unclear if the suspect knew Lytton, or what the motive for Lytton’s murder was.

The Everett Police Department has yet to name the suspect, but the department believes there are no other suspects in the case.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
