‘This is our team’: Ursula, Spike weigh in on Seahawks sale, relocation fears

Feb 22, 2026, 6:52 AM

As the Seahawks owner, Jody Allen, is in the process of selling the team, many fans are worried about who will buy the team and whether the owner could try to move the team elsewhere, reminiscent of the SuperSonics in 2008.

KIRO hosts Ursula Reutin and Spike O’Neill ran through all the possibilities regarding the sale, from potential buyers to how difficult it would be to move the team.

“There are 68,000 reasons the Seahawks are not leaving Seattle, and most of them are sitting at the stadium on Sunday,” Spike said on “The Gee and Ursula Show,” alluding to the number of seats in the Seahawks’ Lumen Field. “There are elements of this story that I was completely unaware of, that are potentially disastrous for Seattle and terrify me personally.”

“There’s a lot of what if. Who is going to buy the team, and what’s going to happen? Can they move the team?” Ursula responded. “Seattle has a big billionaire class, and it’s a big class; there are a lot of names popping up. Steve Ballmer’s name was thrown around.”

Could Steve Ballmer be the Seahawks buyer?

Ursula resurfaced a video where Ballmer’s wife was asked about whether Steve had plans to buy the Seahawks when it would be up for sale, to which his wife replied that his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers was enough, and “he and his next wife would have a good time,” if he purchased the Seahawks.

“Then sell the damn Clippers and come home,” Spike said. “He bought the Clippers because the NBA expansion didn’t happen in a timely enough manner for him. Steve, this is your home. Everybody who goes to LA leaves LA. I would love to have Mr. Ballmer as an owner; he’s a quality owner.

“We’re so much more than like the second team in LA or second team in New Jersey, or the third team in Florida,” Spike continued. “Everybody from Montana to Oregon to Alaska, this is our team right here in the northwest. We have one of the largest fan bases in the NFL for regional TV; it’s all about TV money. The package that covers Seahawks football in the great northwest is beyond compare.”
