A 29-year-old suspect allegedly attempted to break into the Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) West Precinct on Wednesday night while armed with a taser.

At approximately 10 p.m., officers received reports of a suspicious person attempting to break into the West Precinct, according to SPD.

Officers within the building could see the suspect holding what appeared to be a firearm as he was circling the block around the precinct on foot.

Officers gathered together and exited the facility to make contact with the suspect, who they believed to be armed.

When the suspect saw officers, he attempted to hide behind a parked car. After he realized he had been spotted by officers, he walked away from them.

Suspect walks blocks away before complying with officers

Police told the suspect to stop, but he occasionally turned around and continued walking away. After walking roughly four blocks away, the man complied with officers’ commands and lay on the ground.

Officers took the suspect into custody and found a “stun gun” type taser in one of his pockets. An SPD investigation revealed that the suspect was attempting to gain entry to the precinct, holding the taser like a firearm.

The suspect’s vehicle was also located, parked near the precinct, with a knife in view.

Officers contacted the suspect’s father and discovered that the man was in crisis, believing officers were out to get him, and controlling him with “energy weapons.”

The suspect was ultimately booked into the King County Jail. The case has since been referred to Seattle’s Mental Health Court.
