Every August the world’s best young female softball players come to Kirkland for the Junior League Softball World Series. The Cats & Dawgs Kirkland Classic kicks it all off at Lee Johnson Field, a free Welcome Rally open to the community—Parade of Champions, live DJ, performances, and a celebrity game captained by former Seattle Seahawk Marcus Trufant and former University of Washington player Terry Hollimon. In 2026, the Cats won! Kirkland City Councilmembers and Governor Bob Ferguson joined as 150 players from five countries were honored on-field with ceremonial first pitches before a crowd of Kirklanders. Next year’s Classic (Opening Ceremonies & Celebrity Softball Game) is set for Saturday, July 31, 2027 ahead of the series August 1–7.
