Listen to Dave’s Commnetary: Slowest population growth since the 40’s
Latest figures show that the US population is growing at a rate of .7 percent. In large part because people don’t feel they can afford kids.
The official cost of raising a child to age 18 is now $190,000 and many American parents are saying that’s too expensive.
But I’m here to remind you that if you give up on kids, you’re giving up on America.
Fewer kids means fewer household creators, fewer toy customers, fewer mall shoppers, in short economic CATASTROPHE.
It would be one thing if we still had huge numbers of strong young illegal immigrants sneaking in, but THEY’VE given up on America too!
So it is crucial that couples convince themselves they can afford kids.
And I KNOW we can do this — we’re Americans; we can convince ourselves of anything. That we need the fastest possible Internet service, that it’s fun to run a marathon, that movies are better in 3D. That those $500 shoes really are firming up my thighs.
Same with kids. We live in a system that depends on endless growth, and without more people, there’s no growth!
There are already hints that the animal kingdom is noticing. Mountain goats are taking over the Northwest, the gray wolf is taking over the Midwest, and in the Northeast, especially in the suburbs around NYC, the deer population is now demanding the vote.
So young people, marry the sex of your choice, but have some kids… before it’s too late. Before a lot of very expensive youth soccer fields end up hosting unsanitary anarchist encampments.
