Listen to Dave Ross Commentary: Herman Cain’s real problem
People like Herman Cain. I know Democrats who normally despise Republicans but still like Herman Cain. There’s even one woman who doesn’t despise him…even though she claims he once reached under her skirt:
“I don’t despise the man, I actually did it because I wanted to help him,” said Sharon Bialek.
She just wanted to give him a platform to come clean. Because Herman Cain is a likeable man.
“There’s not an ounce of truth in all of these accusations,” said Cain.
And most people would like believe him.
But I think we are still haunted by a certain memory whenever something like this erupts:
“I did not have sexual relations with that woman,” said Bill Clinton.
I think Herman Cain’s real problem is the memory of Bill Clinton.
I’m one of those who wanted to believe that Clinton’s accusers were lying. That first phone message to Gennifer Flowers — I wanted to believe it was “selectively edited, as his defenders put it. Then Paula Jones describing her encounter in the hotel room — I wanted to believe she was just in it for the money. And then Lewinsky… I mean yikes! He denied it all, to the point he lied under oath, but it all turned out to be TRUE.
And since then, there’s been a parade of politicians, preachers, and other respectable public figures who just seem to do weird things in the dark that they can’t remember until the blue dress shows up.
I think Americans WANT this all to go away…but in this context Cain can’t even share a simple pizza recipe with Jimmy Kimmel!
Cain: Maybe you need to think thicker and bigger.
Kimmel: See, now you’re going to get yourself into trouble again.
