‘He’ll never win’ they said when Trump announced candidacy

Back in 2015, we were watching Donald Trump descend an escalator in Trump Tower as he prepared to announce his candidacy for president.
Neal Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” was blaring in the background as the celebrity billionaire made his way to the podium to give a speech that would be the beginning of one-half of a contentious presidential race.

“And we all thought, hahaha … he’ll never win, didn’t we?” KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross asked Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold.
“That’s right,” Fahrenthold responded bluntly.
Oh, how things have changed.
Fahrenthold told Dave that Post reporters — and likely many major media outlets — are taking time Wednesday to try and figure out what happens next. That includes how reporters are expected to cover a president who will likely not adhere to a lot of the norms other presidents have kept with in dealing with the media.
But what about those first-day projects Trump has promised to undertake? Rounding up criminal illegal immigrants within the first hour he takes office, for example.
“I don’t know,” Fahrenthold said. “You’ve heard a lot of supporters say we should take him literally on that.”
Fahrenthold says Americans can expect to see Trump quickly disassemble as much of President Obama’s legacy as he can, including the DREAM Act and Obamacare.
Will Trump follow through with his threats to put Clinton in Prison? Likely not, Fahrenthold says.
“She will be a very little of a political threat to him … Hillary really will be in the rear-view mirror.”
