The author of “The Upside of Inequality: How Good Intentions Undermine the Middle Class,” argues that, counter to what Bernie Sanders has been telling us, economic inequality does not need to be cured.

Author Edward Conard says there are two main arguments, which include the following questions:

1. Why have the most successful Americans been so successful, relative to peers in other countries?

2. Why have wages in the middle working class been fairly stagnant over the last 20-30 years?

“Unless you provide a theory for each one of those things, I think that the Bernie Sanders’ of the world try to connect the two and say it’s the successes of the most successful Americans which is drawing money away,” Conard said. “It’s a pie to be divided and they’re getting a bigger slice of a fixed pie and, therefore, everybody else is getting less money.

“I try to dispel that.”
