Two Seattle firetrucks collided with each other en route to an emergency, causing one vehicle to ram into a building and sending eight firefighters to a hospital.

The Seattle Times reports that two firetrucks — a fire engine and a ladder truck — collided at 12th Avenue and 65th Street NE in Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood around 8 a.m. Sunday. The ladder truck was knocked out of the intersection, through a small parking lot, and into the front of a building with a massage business. The owner of the business told the Times that the damage was “cosmetic.”

Luckily, the parking lot was empty because of the New Year holiday.

The Seattle Fire Department is conducting an internal investigation to find out why the firetrucks collided. Initially, it appears that the fire engine was traveling east on 65th Street, and the ladder truck was heading north on 12th Avenue. The two collided as they entered the intersection. The corner in question at 65th Street and 12th Avenue has a blind spot as a building — with a parking lot on the roof — prevents any view between the crossing streets at that angle.

Eight firefighters who were riding in the two vehicles. They were sent to Harborview Medical Center following the incident. They were all released the same day without serious injuries.

The Seattle Police Department is conducting an investigation into the crash.
