In the wake of the Las Vegas massacre, Governor Jay Inslee is calling for a ban of bump stock attachments; devices used to enable weapons to fire rapidly.

Las Vegas officials believe the gunman who killed 59 people and injured 527 more used two bump stock attachments on firearms from the incident. Since the Sunday night shooting outside the Route 91 Harvest festival, investigators have been removing and taking stock of the equipment he had in his room at the Mandalay Bay.

Gov. Inslee says Washington state voters, in the past, have “approved common-sense laws to strengthen background checks and empower families to keep guns away from a loved one in crisis.”

But it’s time to do more. In fact, he’s “done waiting for the ‘right time’ to talk about it. The ‘can’t talk about it now’ crowd is killing us.”

This session the legislature needs to ban bump-stocks and other devices that turn legal semi-automatic firearms into lethal fully-automatic machine guns. We must make sure people intent on causing mass destruction and loss of life won’t be aided by lax laws that give them unfettered access to military-style weaponry.

To those who say we can’t talk about machine gun massacres right after the massacre: I’m done waiting for the ‘right time’ to talk about it. The ‘can’t talk about it now’ crowd is killing us.
