On behalf of KIRO Radio, I partner with WSECU to honor Hometown Heroes. This month’s hero is Washington State Trooper Brian Zillmer. He was nominated for continually going above and beyond the call of duty.

More Kindness

That’s a common thread for heroes described in my Daily Dose of Kindness. For Zillmer’s nomination, he was described as someone who will help at his local food bank, and offer assistance to a family in need during the holidays.

In today’s feature, I talked about another law enforcement hero that’s from Indianapolis. Officer Jeremy (no last name given) hands of grocery bags full of food to people-in-need who he encounters while on patrol. He recently spoke to the Indy Star about a Marine veteran he helped.

“She had one child that was going off to college and an 11-year-old. I could tell she was trying her best, trying to raise this family, just needed a little help. So, I was able to provide her the food bag. I know it meant a lot to her and it meant a lot to me to be able to help her out,” Officer Jeremy said.

Northwest Harvest food bank given eviction notice

The program is a joint project of Indianapolis public safety agencies, a food bank, and the police department. Each bag costs around $13 and is filled with shelf-stable food, which is enough for a family to create about a dozen meals.

By the way, you can nominate a Hometown Hero here. KIRO Radio and WSECU recognize them with a $2,000 charitable grant.

If you have a Daily Dose of Kindness to share with Colleen, email her at cobrien@kiroradio.com.

You can hear Colleen O’Brien’s “Daily Dose of Kindness” segment every morning at 7:30 a.m. on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM.
