Amtrak’s train service between Seattle and Portland is currently suspended, and it won’t return until Wednesday morning.
The suspension began after a warehouse fire broke out near the Portland tracks more than two weeks ago on Aug. 2, blocking the route. According to Portland Fire and Rescue, the damage put a 116-year-old building at risk of collapsing.
In response, Amtrak is running buses instead of trains on most routes, but some trips have been canceled altogether because there aren’t enough buses.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize the well-being of our employees and customers,” Amtrak shared.
Amtrak is contacting impacted customers, giving them options to rebook to another day at no additional charge or cancel for a full refund.
While the route between Seattle and Portland has been disrupted, the route between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. and the route between Portland and Eugene are running normally.
