As the new school year trucks on, people have noticed some bad driving habits during school hours.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, people have been complaining about drivers passing school buses while children are unloading, speeding through school zones and refusing to yield at crosswalks.

Let’s do a quick rundown on the school driving rules.

  1. Question: Can I drive in a crosswalk if children are almost finished using it?

Answer: No. Kids (and just people in general) have to be out of the crosswalk completely before you can drive.

  2. Question: What is the speed limit in a school zone?

Answer: 20 miles per hour when school is in session (and that might even be too fast).

  3. Question: Can I pass a stopped school bus?

    Answer: No. Nada. Nope.
Never pass a bus that is stopped to load or unload children (if the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, drivers must stop).

Here’s a video to show you how to deal with school zones during your drive.
