Three-day closure shuts down northbound 1st Avenue South bridge

All northbound lanes of the First Avenue South bridge are closed for a three‑day repair project.
The closure on State Route 99 is expected to remain in place through Wednesday evening as crews work to address structural issues found during a recent inspection, according to transportation officials.
The temporary shutdown began at 5 a.m. Monday and is scheduled to continue until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Crews will be stabilizing sections of the bridge deck that have cracked.

Drivers heading into downtown Seattle from the south on SR 99 should expect longer travel times and possible backups as traffic is detoured off the bridge during the closure.
The bridge will remain open to marine traffic beneath it while work is underway. After the temporary repairs are complete later this week, crews will continue additional phases of planned work in the coming weeks and months to further strengthen and replace deck sections.
WSDOT is urging commuters to allow extra time or consider alternate routes through the midweek period.
