Critical work along I-5 complete, but lanes remain narrow

Jun 13, 2016, 7:13 AM | Updated: 8:30 am

The expansion joint replacement along I-5, between Everett and Marysville, is complete, but things aren’t quite back to normal.

Lanes through the former construction zone remain narrow and the speed limit is still 45 mph, KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan reports.

The state will meet with the contractor this week to see what work remains before the project wraps up completely. That work will include re-striping the lanes, which could prove difficult with the forecast, Sullivan points out.

Rain is expected through Tuesday. It will be at least partly cloudy through Thursday. Rain or no rain, the contract says work must be complete by Thursday, according to Sullivan.

A total of 41 aging expansion joints were replaced over the Ebey, Union, and Steamboat slough bridges over eight weekends. The joints were up to 30 years old and had exceeded their lifespan.
