Eastside drivers have had a few issues with access to the new I-405 Express Toll Lanes. The most common complaint we have heard is: “When can I get in and out of these things?”

“We’re at the front end of a learning curve for I-405 express toll lane drivers,” said Craig Stone, Washington State Department of Transportation assistant secretary. “It will take time to get familiar with new rules like access points, but we know our drivers are smart and they soon will be experts.”

Express toll lane drivers have direct access ramp at Northeast 6th Street. Drivers headed southbound on I-405 can use the ramp as a direct access to downtown Bellevue. Express toll drivers headed north on I-405 from downtown can also use it.

“We’re seeing the direct access ramps at Northeast 6th underused,” Stone said. “We want express toll lane drivers to know that there is a direct link for them to and from downtown Bellevue.”

The Express Toll Lanes on I-405 are a time saver, if you can afford it. On Wednesday morning, the top price reached $3.75 at the peak in the express toll lanes and saw a 25-minute time savings.
