Storm-damaged road in North Bend reopens after 4-month closure

Southeast Edgewick Road in North Bend reopened to normal, two-way traffic on Tuesday after months of storm-related repairs.
The King County Road Services Division (KCRSD) completed significant, permanent repairs on the roadway after it was heavily damaged by the flooding in December, King County announced.
KCRSD estimated that the December flooding and related slides, erosion, and riverbank damages caused more than $11 million in losses to King County-owned roads and bridges.
“This reopening is a critical milestone for the community that relies on Southeast Edgewick Road every day,” Department of Local Services Director Leon Richardson stated. “County teams moved quickly to establish temporary access and complete the repairs needed to restore the road permanently. We know how disruptive this closure has been, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we worked to reopen the road safely and thoroughly.”
King County completes permanent repairs in North Bend after December slides forced closure
On December 8, 2025, the first slide on Southeast Edgewick Road occurred when the ground beneath the roadway gave way. Crews worked continuously to stabilize the site, though ongoing rainfall and high-water flow caused additional slides and delays.
“The unprecedented and devastating floods in December caused extensive damage to the county’s road and bridge network that keeps our region moving and connected,” King County Executive Girmay Zahilay stated. “The reopening of Southeast Edgewick Road restores safe, reliable access to this neighborhood for residents and first responders. I’m grateful for the community’s patience during this repair and for our Road Services crews for their hard work across the county to help reconnect communities.”
In order to maintain essential access, KCRSD and the King County Parks Division created an emergency agreement to allow residents and first responders to use the Snoqualmie Valley Trail as a temporary route.
KCRSD installed a temporary bridge over an existing private bridge to allow emergency vehicles to reach the neighborhood.
King County noted that water-related risks to Southeast Edgewick Road have been known for years. In 2009, King County installed perforated pipes to divert water away from the downslope. King County believed that one of the pipes may have shifted and allowed water to undermine the road. The heavy rainfall in December 2025 exceeded the capacity of the previous drainage system.

Final drainage projects, trail restoration work continues
In January, crews were able to reinforce the ditch at the slide site by adding additional drainage to reopen the road with just one lane and a weight limit.
Permanent repairs began in February. The work included installing a new drainage system, repairing slide damage, adding a guardrail, and repaving the roadway.
In the next few weeks, crews will complete another drainage project near the slide site and perform work near a driveway in the 456th block. Once all the work is completed, crews will remove the temporary bridge along the alternate route and make necessary repairs on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail.
