Plenty of events around Seattle to slow your weekend drives

The Seattle-area is getting a rare weekend off from construction projects, but there will be plenty of things to get in your way without them.
There’s no SnoCo Squeeze that will slow your drive along I-5 through Marysville and Everett. There’s no major work on Highway 99, 520, or even I-90.
But we are at the beginning of the summer festival season, which kicks off in a big way this weekend. The biggest event is the Rock n’ Roll Marathon on Saturday. It is going to close down several highways and freeways through mid-afternoon. The event will close the Alaskan Way Viaduct between 4-10:30 a.m. in the northbound direction. The I-90 express lanes will be closed 4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Norm Mah with the Seattle Department of Transportation says drivers can expect surface street closures around Seattle Center and Lake Washington Boulevard.
If you get caught up in this, you at least get to hear some good music.
Drivers will also need to watch out for naked bike riders in Fremont on Saturday. The Solstice Parade starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday and rolls down to the festival at Gas Works Park.
Watch out for wandering trumpets, sousaphones, and other brass instruments as HONK! Fest West hits spots across central Seattle all weekend.
And farther north, keep an eye out for people heading to the Marysville Strawberry Festival.
